About Pete

Pete Armetta is a new writer of Flash Fiction, Poetry, Short Stories and Essays. With a style that’s accessible and broad, his poetry and stories fend off conventionality.

He’s impossible to pigeonhole.

Pete’s a native New Yorker living in Charlottesville, VA, via too many other places to count. It’s a life of big sky and mountains and dogwoods and hawks. Of back roads and wood-burning stoves. It’s bourbon and mint from the garden in spring and swimming in the river in summer. Currently pursuing writing fellowships and residencies, Pete writes full-time, shedding that former button-down existence to fully embrace his craft.

You only live once right?

Pete’s work has been published or is upcoming in Estuary MagazineHük Magazine, The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature, Inclement MagazineZest Literary Journal, Gadfly Magazine, The River Journal, Marco Polo Arts Mag, Expats Poetry, Subtle Fiction, Take It To The Street Poetry, Best New Poems, Cynic Magazine, Blue Lake Review, the Stone Path Review and numerous anthologies.  His short stories have been regularly featured in The Piker Press.  Pete’s first poetry chapbook, New Future  was published by Lost & Found Press in 2012 and is free for the taking.

      • “You have, gosh wow you flatter so”

In synchopation, your words with rhythm flow and it’s
        Springtime comedown having now
        Winter
She hushed and her breath could so softly
Sweeten the chill like a yes
To the suddenly no-ness of oncoming button-down autumn.

Words, a collection of thought-life frequencies. You suit them quite nicely, but what do I know.

It is nice in this moment to meet
(you is to know you, for never now-only.)

        😉

Be you, well in the meantime.

      • After reading this page and the comments on this page I immediately thought you and I should grab a beer sometimes… IF you’re willing to cross the ocean swimming that is.

I like how there’s a touch of fun in every sentence you write. It’s awesome.

Just wanted to say: respect your work, keep it up. And it would be awesome if you check out some of my work on my blog sometimes.

  1. Really nice site Pete, well done. I’m a bit pedal to the metal right now. But I certainly intend to come back and have a good look around as I always like reading your stuff.

  3. Hey thanks! I appreciate that. 🙂 I just looked at yours, great stuff. I can’t comment there or like unless I sign up? Well I’ll tell you right here then keep it up. You’ve got a niche thing going on there I really like it a lot.

Thanks for your kind words Joanne. Not too much of a ghost town lately which is GOOD. haha

  8. You have been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award! Go check it out on my blog because there are a few things you’ve got to do in order to accept it. :p

  9. Thank you Beverly for coming by. 🙂 And Robin I appreciate the nominiation. I get nominated from time to time for blog awards, but never accept only because it’s all too hard for me to do all things I have to hahh But I appreciate it!

  10. I’ve only been blogging for a couple of months, and I’ve enjoyed reading your blogs. Therefore, I’ve nominated you for the Sunshine Award. As a novice, this is something new to me. I’m honored to be nominated myself, but have found that it’s taking up a lot of time to be nominated. So, if you’d like to follow the drill after your nomination, please do, if not, I understand. You are still one of the few I subscribe to and enjoy. If you decide to pass it on, click on the link for the award and use my acceptance page as a template. Congratulations!

    • Thank you Sheila. I think by your comment you’re talking about the flash fiction story Things Behind You. Yes, most “regular” types don’t get it haha Appreciate you reading. 🙂

  11. Hello Pete, thanks for dropping by modest site! Like I say I’m not all that cynical, although skeptical to a fault. I love your ‘about’ picture, and share your love of writing. I look forward to reading your work, and all the best.

  12. Its like you read my mind! You seem to know a lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you can do with some pics to drive the message home a bit, but instead of that, this is great blog. An excellent read. I will certainly be back.

  13. I quite like the fancies your brain tends to take. Loveliest talent in the sharing of them. I’m glad I found your blog.

Upon reading much of the comments, I hereby nominate you with the single most nominated blogger of the day award. To accept this nomination, do nothing. You may go about your business with a new awareness of your fan base’s massive (and ever-stretching) size. Congratulations, and have a great day. 🙂

    • That’s the BESTEST award I’ve ever gotten: the Do-Nothing! 🙂 Thanks for the kind words (about liking my brain fancies) and glad to know you. I appreciate you stopping by.

  14. I know i’m a bit behind in thanking people but, thanks for following lol. I really enjoy reading your poetry, and despite the fact that I’m not usually a big reader of short stories, yours just seem to draw me in. Thanks! 🙂

  15. Thanks a lot for liking my flash fiction.
If you can, can you please comment/review that work? I would be glad and grateful
    🙂 Thanks

  16. WOW! Talk about being completely different than New York. You’ve gone from one extreme to the other.

  17. I am in awe. Not so many people would surrender their corporate lifestyle in pursuit of what really makes them happy. I feel lucky to have stumbled upon your blog. Cheers to you and your writing life! 🙂

  18. Last night I came home to find that a fellow blogger chose me to be one of his recipients of the 2012 Blog of the Year Award. One of the several blogger-nominate-a-blogger type awards that seem to multiply like rabbits in the blogosphere. Part of the drill is, I get to ‘award’ fellow bloggers, whose blogs I enjoy. Well, tag. You’re it. The rest of the drill is letting said fellow bloggers know. Now you know. It’ll be in virtual print tomorrow. Hope you’re ok with it. Remember me when you’re a mega star, is all I ask 🙂

  19. Hello Pete, I have just began a community on google for writers. I find it difficult at times searching for blogs on other writers or being able to meet other writers online so I am beginning a campaign to invite the best writers I can find online to the google community called Scribes Scroll. It is for self promotion, unique meetings, and discovery. Please join me, and feel free to invite as many people and writers as you wish. (I do need an enticing picture)

  20. My dearest friend, I have nominated you for The Versatile Blogger Award! Congratulations! Please visit this link:transcendingbordersblog.wordpress.com/2013/03/04/the-versatile-blogger-award-2/

  21. A new award, I am Part of the WordPress Family Award, has recently appeared on WordPress and I have nominated you for it. You can read about it on my blog today.

    • I giggled at your use of the word “moratorium” hah my senses are such that I appreciate the honor of your nomination! That’s about as far as I can go with it, thank you!

      • You’re welcome. Happy for providing the giggle. It IS a good word. 🙂

      • Seriously. In the dark. Got a big shiny grin! I would take the award but it’s a lot of work that I can’t seem to do (I’ve tried). If not for that part of it I am sincerely am grateful.

      • Hey, I get it. It IS a lot of work. Feel free to make ‘moratorium’ your own :). I’m sharing it with you. Haha. I’m awarding it to you. How’s that?? 🙂

  22. Awesome blog bro, I will definitely be taking a much deeper look into it all, I love that you pen in such a way to let go of past things, and to free your expression up as to not be tagged or titled as anything or anyone set style in particular, of a person.
Now, that’s highly commendable of you to be such a way, and tough to achieve if anything bro. (Nice online/offline performance as well according to your affiliations and accreditation’s up above as an author/poet.)
As I said up there on Facebook and in that cool poetry group, I’m a fellow New Yorker from Queens actually. I enjoy helping folks here online from time to time besides writing as well.
Thanks again for taking the time to watch one of my videos, and cool comment you dropped for me up there, it prompted me to see what you have to offer as well.

Your new found pal Mike Pugh aka Cloud Explorer

    • It’s taken me a long time to realize that and I have to remind myself every day! Nice to see someone else can’t do awards, I appreciate that and AWARD you the blog of my day for it! 🙂 (you don’t have to do anything though but accept it)

  23. Hi Pete, Great to meet you last week – while I was picking up my paintings. Really looking forward to diving into your blog. I like what I see so far. Joy (www.slendergolden.com)
