you can please some of the people all of the time
all of the people some of the time
but not all of the people all of the time
yet still pay heed
why not concede
and go out and about on your merry way
do what you do and say all that you say
pleasing one of the people is simplest
and leaves you alone at your happiest.

  1. Yep! Can relate only too well to people pleasing! Balance is the key I guess. I am learning slowly but surely that I actually matter too. Anyway martyrdom isn’t healthy and thats almost where I went with it all. Not anymore. (im still nice though! Ha ha!). Love the note to self too ๐Ÿ™‚

    Love the ryhming again! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Pete, I read long ago that the people pleasing is a form of narcissism called “hypervigilant narcissism.” That makes me feel even guiltier when I’m hypervigilantly narcissistic. It’s a vicious cycle.

    • Time to do that step back and vigilantly aim not at all to please. Just shut the hell up (oh, note to self!) ๐Ÿ™‚ Do the Cone of Silence haha Pleases me anyway!

  3. Just being true to yourself pleases all the right people. And that way you get to please yourself at the same time. Bonus. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • It’s good to ask ourselves if what we’re doing is true and right for ourselves before we ask if it’s true or right for other people. Some of the people will be pleased or not that’s their deal is how I see it! If so, yes bonus and icing on the cakesy! ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Exaxtly. But Bonus AND icing on the cake! Now you’re talkin’. What flavour icing?

  4. This poem I could almost ‘hear’ you reading aloud, (as you did last week).  Response to your poster note illustration reminded me of, Wasn’t it St. Augustine? who is reputed to have said, (something like!), ‘Do as you please, because, if you do what you please, you do what pleases God.’  (Don’t know that I got that exactly verbatim - Guess we can’t always go off doin’ any ole thing we might want to – Erick, help me out)!

  5. Hi Pete,True statement,no matter how hard you try there will be those who never can be pleased. The only person you can truly please is yourself.Yes you please some and you displease some.Regards.jalal

  6. ‘Note to Self’:  ”Love God & do what you please. ‘Cause if you love God, you’ll do what (He) pleases.”
